Opaque Treatment
Logline: A murder in the woods with no leads to the culprit, Jessie and James are on the case to find the culprit and possibly more.
Characters:
This section is for your character list. Don’t make it too long or include too many characters. Summarise your main characters with hints at backstory, demons, and what makes them unique. Try to create imagery that conjure images in the reader’s head. Here’s a longer example from Lost. You can make yours shorter:
Jessie: A serious and professional detective who wants to get in and out of the crime scene and get paid for solving the case. Their mother is currently suffering from a mysterious illness which drives them to get their work done each day.
James: A detective who prefers to look on the lighter side, dressing more casually and laid-back view to the job. They are squeamish around the sight of blood and usually leave that to Jessie. Growing from a rich family, he lacks the need for the money so chooses to help their closest friend.
Synopsis:
(Set-up and Opening Image): In the opening scene we are introduced to our two characters Jessie and James. We see that Jessie takes control more and has more of a say in where the detectives decide to go. We are also introduced to the issue here where the character of Poppy has been found dead and it is up to the two detectives to find the culprit. We additionally find out that Jessie has a mother who is suffering from a mysterious illness.
(More conflict, triumphs defeats, twists): Our two detectives get to the crime scene and begin to search for clues and evidence. James picks up a baseball bat which he begins to swing around and pretend to hit his detective friend. This does not go well with Jessie who decides to shout at their co-workers misdeeds. During the shouting, Jessie mentions a dead cousin. James happened to have a cousin missing so decides to check out the body and look for the cousin’s signature tattoo.
(Climax): Jessie reveals their true nature and decides to swing the bat into James in order to hide the fact that they caused the death of Poppy. We are left on a cliffhanger with Jessie getting away with the murder.
