Offline Edit
Offline edit (no sound):
Here is the offline edit: all of the necessary clips split and assembled together, without any heavy edits and effects. Due to technical and rendering issues, the video has no sound. But this was resolved when exporting the final edit. our final edit included a variety of shot types, audio files and editing techniques; however, most of these contradict the techniques contradict the storyboard made prior to recording the footage.
In terms of storyboard, 2 main storyboards were produced to envision what the 2 main scenes of the short film would look like: 2 storyboards, 1 for each scene. The first scene is the garage like work place where the detectives work, to establish how low budget, unorganized and unprofessional they are, and to introduce the 2 main characters. The second scene, being the crime scene set in a forest, showing the 2 detectives investigate the crime.
Apart from the flaw of our shots not matching the storyboard, some of the shots remained similar to the storyboard, or at the very least, they somewhat followed the storyboard. For example, in the second shot of the second storyboard, a shot remained exactly the same as planned: the 2 characters discussing how and where they are going to investigate the crime scene. The scene shows the 2 characters stood infront of blurred out trees (which establishes their location).
During the production of our short film, there were several amendments made to improvise the flaws in our preparation. As shown earlier, I made a comparison to the storyboard to the recorded shot. Although this matches this storyboard and description well, there were several other shots that did not exactly follow the concepts shown on the storyboard. For example, as shown on the brief storyboard, there was a mention of there being several flashbacks caused by objects found at the crime scene. In the final short film, this was not shown: If there were elements of this being shown, it was not shown clearly. There was a shot where one of the detectives pick up a bat, and a shot of the victim getting killed is shown immediately after with no transition or any way to show that the bat triggered the flashback. Next time, a change we could make is making the transition from present to past more noticeable through the use of props.
