Audience Feedback

Image
Audience Feedback: After finishing the short film, we presented it to the rest of the group and gained a total of 11 responses on a self-made questionnaire.  For the first question, we asked the audience to rate the short film in general to see if they enjoyed it overall. All of the responses were above 5, meaning that everyone enjoyed the film to an extent. Majority of people rated a 9 instead of 10 due to an issue that will be addressed later in this report. Out of all 11 people that responded, everyone enjoyed the editing and could not find any changes to be made. Again, out of all 11 responses, everyone agreed that there was mise en scene throughout the duration of film and the genre was clearly established. Some responses were indecisive about the acting; the vast majority of people that responded enjoyed the acting, however, there were a few people that disliked the acting or could not decide whether they believed it was good or not. Due to the budget, we could not afford to ...

Rushes

Image
Rushes: Opaque is a short film that is based off detective and whodunit films from the 80-90s. To make sure we made the film visually appear older than the time it was recorded, we used a range of props and other set ups in the rushes to help make the film meet the conventions of the detective genre In terms of the characters, James is always seen wearing a camera around his neck that was made and known in the 80s. Jessie, the other main character, does not really show many conventions. However, they are dressed in an old looking suit and is shown to look professional. The stage and background contained many hidden details that follow the genre and conventions of detective movies: an example of one of these details is the car that Jessie and James use to get to the crime scene that is shown in several shots of the film: a Corvette Stingray. The Corvette Stingray was made in the 1960s, which provides the audience with some sort of indication of how long ago the events of the film took p...

Offline Edit

Image
Offline edit (no sound): Here is the offline edit: all of the necessary clips split and assembled together, without any heavy edits and effects. Due to technical and rendering issues, the video has no sound. But this was resolved when exporting the final edit. our final edit included a variety of shot types, audio files and editing techniques; however, most of these contradict the techniques contradict the storyboard made prior to recording the footage. In terms of storyboard, 2 main storyboards were produced to envision what the 2 main scenes of the short film would look like: 2 storyboards, 1 for each scene. The first scene is the garage like work place where the detectives work, to establish how low budget, unorganized and unprofessional they are, and to introduce the 2 main characters. The second scene, being the crime scene set in a forest, showing the 2 detectives investigate the crime. Apart from the flaw of our shots not matching the storyboard, some of the shots remained ...

Production

When filming for our short film, we used equipment owned by the school to record and set up everything ready in preparation for filming. This included 2 canon cameras, a gun mic, a drone and a tripod. We decided to use 2 cameras instead of 1 to get shots from different angles (to then decide which ones we prefer when editing). We also took a range of lenses for different kinds of shots. We also decided to connect a gun mic to the camera in order to get high quality audio to pick up sounds. In order to protect the cameras, we used bags to carry the mic and cameras in, including the SD cards to ensure that they would not get lost. We also made sure to reset and clear the SD cards at school for more storage (and to make it easier to access the clips once imported into an editing program. In general, we used bags and cases to make transporting them from school to where we planned to film easier and to prevent them from breaking or getting lost. We also carried the drone in a case along wit...
