Audio control

Image
How audio was controlled In this post, I will be demonstrating my ability to control the audio tracks used in my final edit. Considering that there were not many heavy edits done to the audio, I decided to edit and import the audio into Adobe After Effects. This would be beneficial as the audio will be played on the same timeline as the clips, meaning that the timing of the clips with the audio files will be synced. This will help me ensure that the audio sounds realistic and in time with the footage. Audio editing for film production in general is important because it helps to create a cohesive and immersive soundscape for the audience. This includes adding sound effects, music, and dialogue in a way that enhances the story and the emotions of the characters. In general, choosing to edit the audio in a way that is tailored to look professional will enhance the short film as a whole In this screenshot, an audio file that contains sounds of birds chirping is shown. This file was importe...

Treatment

Opaque   Treatment   Logline: A murder in the woods with no leads to the culprit, Jessie and James are on the case to find the culprit and possibly more.     Characters:     This section is for your character list. Don’t make it too long or include too many characters. Summarise your main characters with hints at backstory, demons, and what makes them unique. Try to create imagery that conjure images in the reader’s head. Here’s a longer example from Lost. You can make yours shorter:     Jessie: A serious and professional detective who wants to get in and out of the crime scene and get paid for solving the case. Their mother is currently suffer ing from a mysterious illness which drives them to get their work done e ach day.     James: A detective who prefers to look on the lighter side, dressing more casually and laid-back view to the job . They are squeamish around the sight of blood and usually leave that to Jessie. Growi...

Editing After recording everything and ensuring that we have everything ready for our short film, we began importing the clips and editing it in a video editing program. I decided to use Adobe After Effects as it allows me to freely edit the film and manipulate the clips to my liking. I did however have the option to edit the film on premiere pro (which some of our group members did) as it allowed them to edit similarly to After Effects but with simplified tools and options that would give them a simple edit for the final product. Because I decided to use After Effects, I had a wide range of editing tools to help me ensure that the final edit will turn out exactly how the short film was envisioned at the start. Starting off simple, I imported and arranged all the clips that are going to be included in the film into the timeline. I cut and cropped the clips accordingly and began the more complex edits afterwards. The final edit is 3 minutes and 4 seconds long. 0:00:03:39 - A text effec...

Audience Feedback

Image
Audience Feedback: After finishing the short film, we presented it to the rest of the group and gained a total of 11 responses on a self-made questionnaire.  For the first question, we asked the audience to rate the short film in general to see if they enjoyed it overall. All of the responses were above 5, meaning that everyone enjoyed the film to an extent. Majority of people rated a 9 instead of 10 due to an issue that will be addressed later in this report. Out of all 11 people that responded, everyone enjoyed the editing and could not find any changes to be made. Again, out of all 11 responses, everyone agreed that there was mise en scene throughout the duration of film and the genre was clearly established. Some responses were indecisive about the acting; the vast majority of people that responded enjoyed the acting, however, there were a few people that disliked the acting or could not decide whether they believed it was good or not. Due to the budget, we could not afford to ...

Rushes

Rushes: Opaque is a short film that is based off detective and whodunit films from the 80-90s. To make sure we made the film visually appear older than the time it was recorded, we used a range of props and other set ups in the rushes to help make the film meet the conventions of the detective genre In terms of the characters, James is always seen wearing a camera around his neck that was made and known in the 80s. Jessie, the other main character, does not really show many conventions. However, they are dressed in an old looking suit and is shown to look professional. The stage and background contained many hidden details that follow the genre and conventions of detective movies: an example of one of these details is the car that Jessie and James use to get to the crime scene that is shown in several shots of the film: a Corvette Stingray. The Corvette Stingray was made in the 1960s, which provides the audience with some sort of indication of how long ago the events of the film took p...
