Audience Feedback
Audience Feedback:
After finishing the short film, we presented it to the rest of the group and gained a total of 11 responses on a self-made questionnaire.
For the first question, we asked the audience to rate the short film in general to see if they enjoyed it overall. All of the responses were above 5, meaning that everyone enjoyed the film to an extent.
Majority of people rated a 9 instead of 10 due to an issue that will be addressed later in this report.
Again, out of all 11 responses, everyone agreed that there was mise en scene throughout the duration of film and the genre was clearly established.
Due to the budget, we could not afford to hire professional actors, and improvised by using the people in our group to be actors. For future reference, we should initiate a plan to be able to afford and hire better actors for new films.
All 11 responses show that no one would make improvements on the camera shots, meaning that they see no room for improvements on the angles, focusing and shot types.
There are several responses in regards to the audio: most of them are explaining how improvements can be made. The first response about the audio explained how it would cut sharply whenever there was a transition between shots. To alter this next time, we could make softer transitions with cross fades and other transition effects (as well as fade ins and outs on the audio between clips) to make it appear less sharp and aggressive.
The second negative remark made about the audio describes how the audio of the garage door cuts out in a strange manner during the transition between shots. To resolve this audio issue, we could create something known as a sound-bridge while editing, meaning that the audio from the first shot of the garage door would play over the second clip of the garage door (the second clip would be muted).
Keyhole Creative feedback: https://youtu.be/s96KDB3jQs8
Upon finishing our short film, we created a small PowerPoint presentation to present to two employers from a company called Keyhole Creative: Ewan Neale and Billy Roe. We presented this along with our finished short film and asked for professional feedback from them. In response to our presentation and short film, here are examples of what Keyhole Creative had to say:
Keyhole Creative really enjoyed one of the very first transitions between the missing poster on the cork board to the missing poster presented in the forest. While on the subject of the cork board, they also mentioned that they enjoyed the lighting on the cork board in the scene where the detectives are shown working on the case. It clearly presented the cork board and showed them without telling them that it is a crime investigation.
The company also mentioned that they would make slight improvements on some aspects of our short film. One of these improvements being that the ending could be adjusted; the ending consisted of James' final moments alive and resembled that of slow eye blinks. Although it was easy to notice that it resembled eye blinks, Keyhole Creative gave examples of ways that it can be improved to look more realistic and appealing to watch.
- liked lighting on cork board
- need to improve ending: flashes should resemble that of eye blinks. Different lens, blurs and shutters to resemble eye blinks
